FAQ
What is Organic Cotton?
Organic cotton is cotton that is produced and certified to organic agricultural standards. Its production sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people by using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. Importantly organic cotton farming does not allow the use of toxic chemicals or GMOs (genetically modified organisms). Instead, it combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote a good quality of life for all involved.

Why do you use Organic Cotton?
Our choices impact the health of this place we call home. Organic farming practices:
- Keep millions of pounds of chemicals out of the environment
- Create healthier working conditions for farmers and agricultural workers
- Do not depend on chemical pesticides (poisons), synthetic fertilizers, or genetically engineered ingredients
- Reduce global warming. Organic farms pull CO2 out of the atmosphere as much as three times the rate of conventional farming practices and releases less CO2 into the atmosphere because it does not rely on chemical fertilizers and herbicides (Rodale Institute, 2008)
- Promote bio-diversity. Insect and bird life has been found to be as much as 50% greater on organic farms than conventional farms (UK Soil Association, 2000)
- Demonstrates your commitment to social and environmental responsibility
Where does your Organic Cotton come from?
Our suppliers use domestic and imported organic cottons. If imported, cotton fibers are mostly from Turkey and India.
Is your Organic Cotton certified?
Yes, our suppliers are committed to using GOTS certified organic cotton. Please click here http://www.global-standard.org/ to learn more about Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
What is Recycled Polyester or RPET?
RPET stands for Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate. Our products that contain RPET yarn are made using recycled bottles. The amount of bottles per style may vary.
Why do you use Recycled Polyester or RPET?
We’re keeping bottles and other plastics out of the landfills. In addition, polyester content means increased fabric stability, reduced shrinkage and soft fleece in the inside.
Why not bamboo / hemp fabric (viscose rayon):
The complex process of chemically breaking down cellulose pulp to form regenerated cellulose fiber, or rayon, results in a great deal of environmental pollution. In addition, waste-gas emissions from the xanthation process and waste-water emissions associated with the wet spinning bath are of particular concern because of the health risks associated with the process.
Do you use environmentally friendly dyes?
Yes, our suppliers only use low impact, fiber reactive dyes that are not harmful to the environment. This means that they do not contain any heavy metals or toxic substances.
Where are your products made?
Most of our products are supplied by manufactures in the United States. When not manufactured in the United States (USA), they are responsibly manufactured in Mexico, Pakistan, India, and China.
Why not always manufactured in the USA?
While our suppliers would like to produce all products in the USA, at times it is difficult for them to secure US fiber, spin yarn in the US, and manufacture at a price and quality level that are economically viable.
Why do your suppliers choose to manufacture in Mexico, India, Pakistan and China?
Our suppliers carefully choose their production locations based on the quality and market parameters required to meet the needs of their customers. In these locations they are able to manufacture according to the highest international standards of social, environmental and organic compliance while offering a finished product that makes economic sense for all parties.
What are the working conditions in factories?
The factories that our suppliers work with agree to ensure and actively engage in upholding a Workplace Code of Conduct which addresses important social compliance standards designed to ensure a safe and hygienic workplace is provided.
What types of inks do you use for your screen printing?
We use environmentally friendly water based inks.
Why do you use water based inks?
There are many advantages to water based inks. In addition to being more environmentally-friendly, water based inks:
- Produce a thinner, softer printing (meaning no thick, bulky print on fabric)
- Are significantly more breathable
- Integrate into the fabric, rather than on top of it, creating a vintage look
- Offer exceptional quality and durability
